Atherton has succeeded in preserving its reputation as a peaceful and private community all while being located in the heart of technology’s Silicon Valley.  Located on the mid- Peninsula within the greater San Francisco Bay Area, this small town is situated at the crossroads of many venture capital firms and the headquarters of the major technology firms of Facebook, Google and Apple.

The majority of Atherton properties consist of a minimum of 1 acre and there are no sidewalks or very few street lights. Residents enjoy their privacy behind gates and high hedges and titans from the financial and tech industries continue to build impressively grand new residences, often larger than 10,000 SF. Since there are no retail amenities, residents enjoy the services of Menlo Park and Palo Alto before retreating to the quiet of Atherton. With regard to the school system, half of the city is districted to the Menlo Park public schools and the other half feeds to the Redwood City public school system.
